Greystar Development has proposed development of a 525-unit apartment complex on Old Ivy Road on the vacant land between Huntington Village and the Rt. 29 Bypass access ramp from Old Ivy Road to the east-bound lane of the Bypass. The project requires approval of rezoning of the area. At its meeting last November, the Albemarle County Planning Commission voted 4 to 2 to recommend not rezoning the land. Of major concern was the lack of information about details regarding transportation improvements that are being planned--which may include rerouting traffic in the area of the Bellair Exxon-- but not yet released to the public. The final decision will be made by the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors. Their meeting to consider the proposal is scheduled for March 1.
